Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, New Castlevania Game Could Be at Konami’s E3 2023

Konami could reveal the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and a new Castlevania game at E3 2023, according to the premiere episode of the new VGC podcast. In October 2022, we reported that a Chinese developer named Virtuos could be heading the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, and there have many rumors about it since then. However, the rumor of a new Castlevania game is indeed a surprise.

Konami is apparently unsure how to approach older MGS games

In terms of what Konami could be showing at E3 2023, Andy Robinson on the VGC Podcast named two games in particular:

There’s a new Castlevania in addition to the Dead Cells [Return to Castlevania] DLC that they announced at The Game Awards, so that is the furthest along I’ve been told. And then of course there’s this much discussed Metal Gear Solid 3 remake which I also expect them to finally show.

He then continues to say that Konami has apparently been hesitant on how to approach the older Metal Gear Solid games, on whether they should receive a remake or how they should be made available for modern platforms.

This adds more context to a prior report in January about a leaker who said there’s a “strong” chance that we’ll hear something about a remake for the first Metal Gear Solid before May 2023.

These older MGS games were supposedly in the plans for Konami for several years already. Robison speculates that Konami will be looking at the reception of the MGS3 remake as a “test bed” for how to move forward with these other Metal Gear Solid projects.
