How borrowing a character works in Honkai: Star Rail

With the imminent release of the upcoming Honkai: Star Rail, there are many questions left unanswered. HoYoverse’s latest game is a sci-fi strategy RPG with a similar art style to Genshin Impact. In Genshin, you can bring your friends into your world for some multiplayer fun. But co-op works a little differently in this newest game. In Honkai: Star Rail, you can borrow a character, but how does that work? We have an answer for you below.

What borrowing a character does in Honkai: Star Rail

In a way, Honkai: Star Rail will have multiplayer co-op, but not in the way you think. Unlike Genshin, you can’t invite your friends directly into your game. Instead, this game works a little differently. You can borrow your friends as Support characters. If you set one of your characters as a Support, any of your friends will be able to bring them into their game. This works the other way around as well. If any of your friends have a Support character available, you can add them to your party.

Honkai: Star Rail‘s combat system is turn-based, which is different from how Genshin’s combat works. So having streamlined multiplayer probably wasn’t HoYoverse’s first idea. But keep in mind that you can’t just add one of your friends’ overpowered characters. You can only add Supports in Calyxes and the Caverns of Corrosion. Another thing to remember is that you can’t add a friend’s Support character if that same character is already in your team. Pretty simple really, you just can’t have two of the same character on one team.

You should take advantage of this Support feature since you’ll receive rewards if you do so. If any of your friends borrow your Support character, you’ll earn some Credits. Now that you know how borrowing a character works in Honkai: Star Rail, take full advantage of this useful feature.
