Don’t you miss your favorite horses you collected when playing Breath of the Wild? Today’s your lucky day, because in Tears of the Kingdom, you can get them back! You’re returning to the same world, after all, so why wouldn’t you want to get back to your stallions? Unless you want to only catch new horses, we’ll explain how to transfer your horses from Breath of the Wild to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How to bring your old horses to Tears of the Kingdom
You’ll have to progress a few hours into the game before you even find a stable. Once you’ve jumped off of Great Sky Island, all of Hyrule is explorable again. At some point, you’ll come across a stable, and will have to speak to the staff behind the counter. Not inside the stable, which is where you can ask to get a bed and rest. Talk to them on the outside counter for your horse inquiries.
But before you do that, make sure that the Switch you’re playing on has your old Breath of the Wild save data. Luckily, you don’t have to have the game downloaded, you just need the save data with the correct user stored on your Switch. Wondering how to check if you have the save data? Follow these instructions.
- Select ‘System Settings’ on your Nintendo Switch home screen
- Scroll down to ‘Data Management’ and select ‘Save Data Cloud’
- Select the user and search for Breath of the Wild under ‘All Save Data’
Now that you’ve confirmed that the user you’re playing on has Breath of the Wild save data, the transfer of your horses to Tears of the Kingdom should be good to go. As I said, when you’re talking with the staff behind the counter at the stables, ask about registering horses. They’ll explain that your horses are still here, and you can view them or take them out.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
