NetEase unveils Japanese studio PinCool Inc.

NetEase has created a new studio named PinCool Inc, made up of experts in the interactive entertainment sphere, with experience in elements such as video games, movie creatives, and IP licensing. The company’s philosophy is centred around “creativity to make life more enjoyable”, something that will likely be seen through its development projects in the future.

PinCool’s expertise

PinCool will be spearheaded by Ryutaro Ichimura, a video game industry leader who served as the producer of the renowned Dragon Quest franchise, and has worked across other aspects of the IP such as live events. Other experts include Takahsi Ogura, who previously worked on leading names such as Doraemon and Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai, and will act as a board member for PinCool.

The new studio will set its focus on console development, while still engaging with various other forms of entertainment. This move by NetEase represents its progressive shift from its roots in mobile gaming, the largest revenue generator for the company, to new platforms and avenues to expand their reach.

Ichimura’s influence

The new venture by NetEase has been influenced by Ichimura’s contributions to the gaming industry, as well as his passion for creating immersive experiences. “We believe that his commitment to quality and to building innovative experiences is one of the reasons why the Dragon Quest franchise has endured for so long”, said NetEase Games global president Simon Zhu.

The continued focus on creating console games and other developments through PinCool represents a new chapter for NetEase, allowing the company to maximize its revenue streams and creative output. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for this forward-thinking studio.
