A new video game studio called Blank, founded by former CD Projekt Red developers, announced plans to create a character-driven game set in an apocalypse with “a twist or two.” Blank’s founders include Cyberpunk 2077 game director and The Witcher 3 co-game director Mateusz Kanik, and former Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 executive producers Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow. The studio hopes to make “beautifully crafted games and unique experiences to players, favoring novel territory rather than well-trodden ground.”
Blank. released concept art for its upcoming project, which will be headed by Kanik and managed by Mikołaj Marchewka. Art director Grzegorz Przybyś will join him, while former CD Projekt Red developers Michal Dobrowolski and Artur Ganszyniec will work on the game as the design director and narrative director, respectively. Blank. stated its work will not include any “clones, or predictable entries.”
According to Mróz, the team is committed to high-quality craftsmanship, and it aims to operate sustainably and on realistic budgets. Blank. is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, with ten team members. The team hopes to expand to 60 members to complete the unannounced game currently in development.
Blank’s “Impactful projects that share our creativity and values” statement aims to create an alternative approach to game development compared to other similar studios. “Where the industry champions a dictatorship of the creative individual, we want to give ownership to the team. Where the industry leans on crunch culture, we prefer work-life balance. Where the industry says bigger is better, we’re setting our sights on highly polished games with a focus on emotion, story, and craftsmanship.”
Blank’s concept art shows a character in the foreground facing a city draped in purple, with a red moon and floating digital shapes in the background. Blank. aims to release more information about the game soon.
