Tips for Defeating Master Kohga in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
In the side adventure “Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan” in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players will encounter the bumbling Yiga Clan leader four times in different abandoned mines across the Depths. After defeating Kohga for the first time at the Great Abandoned Central Mine, he retreats to the Abandoned Gerudo Mine, located right under Gerudo Town, in an attempt to gain the Autobuild power for himself. Despite already having the ability to materialize vehicles in his boss fights, Kohga is determined to acquire Autobuild to seek revenge on Link and bring about the end of the world. This guide focuses on the second boss encounter with Kohga.
1. Taking Down Kohga’s Wing Glider
In this fight, Kohga ditches his armored vehicle in favor of a tricked-out wing glider. Throughout the encounter, he will circle around you from a distance before diving in for an attack. To knock him off the glider and leave him vulnerable to melee hits:
- Attach an eyeball monster part to an arrow and aim at Kohga to home in on him automatically.
- Alternatively, if you don’t have eyeball parts or prefer not to use them, wait until Kohga dives toward you and fire the arrow at that moment.
2. Dealing with Kohga’s Cannons
After dealing some damage to Kohga, he will stop using flame emitters and instead try to blast you with his cannons. When you’re at ground level, his shots can be accurate, but you can use Recall to send the cannon shots away from you. While the shots won’t return directly to Kohga, this strategy makes it easier to avoid taking damage compared to running away from the blast.
3. Overcoming Kohga’s Shields
Once Kohga’s health is below half, he will surround himself with shields to nullify ground-fired arrows. However, he is still exposed at the top, so you should aim for him from higher ground:
- Utilize rockets, springs, and fans located around the perimeter of the arena to gain extra lift.
- Alternatively, you can use Zonai devices from your inventory to achieve the same effect.
What Comes Next
With Master Kohga defeated once again, he abandons his search for the Autobuild ability. However, he remains confident and teases the revival of an “ultimate weapon” powered by crystalized charges. Considering the challenges Link has faced in Tears of the Kingdom and elsewhere, he should have no trouble with whatever trick Master Kohga has up his sleeve.
