Horses have been absent from The Sims since the release of the Pets expansion for The Sims 3 in 2011. However, eager fans are now anticipating their return, as a horse-centric DLC for The Sims 4 appears to have been confirmed. An official teaser from the game invited players to “take the reins,” and soon after, leaked screenshots and cover art surfaced on Steam.
The official Sims Twitter account shared a brief teaser video showcasing Western-themed imagery and hinting at an upcoming “rootin’ tootin’ expansion.” The tweet urged players to “take the reins,” and another post teased “good news coming soon,” accompanied by a link to a trailer set to premiere on Thursday morning.
In addition to the official teasers, leaks have emerged from the game’s Steam page, further supporting the likelihood of a horse-centric expansion. While these images are no longer available on Steam, Reddit and the Sims Community fanpage have shared the leaked screenshots, which depict horses and ranch scenes set in a western desert environment. These align with the themes hinted at in the official teasers. The expansion will also introduce the ability for ranching sims to raise mini sheep and mini goats, as well as reintroduce nectar making, a feature last seen in The Sims 3.
Similar to the Cats and Dogs expansion, horses in The Sims 4 will be customizable in the Create A Sim feature and can be obtained through rescue, purchase, or breeding. Players will have the opportunity to build their own ranch and care for these majestic creatures.
The official trailer for the new expansion is scheduled to premiere at 10 AM PT on June 22. According to the leaked content, the expansion is set to be released on all platforms on July 20.
