Hero Wars Developer Nexters to Restructure as GDEV Inc.
Nexters, the developer behind the popular game Hero Wars, is undergoing a restructuring process and will operate under the new name GDEV Inc. This move comes after Nexters was delisted from the NASDAQ due to the sanctions imposed on Russian-operated companies following the conflict in Ukraine.
Out of several companies affected by the sanctions, Nexters was the only one that managed to regain its position on the NASDAQ after ceasing operations in Russia and relocating its employees. The rebranding as GDEV Inc. will mark a fresh start for the company.
A Fresh Start with GDEV Inc.
In a statement, CEO of GDEV Andrey Fadeev expressed excitement about the company’s strategic direction and the role of GDEV as a central hub for consolidating and supporting the growth of their studios and franchises. Meanwhile, Nexters Studio, as a wholly owned subsidiary, will focus on game development.
The decision to reorganize and rebrand is not surprising considering the challenges faced by companies that previously operated in Russia. Despite efforts to divest and relocate, these companies continue to face associations with the Russian market that can affect their reputation.
Nexters aims to alleviate these concerns by embracing a new name and identity, signaling a clear break from its past associations. This will enable the company to build confidence among potential business partners and customers.
Nexters’ Successful Titles
Nexters already has a portfolio of highly successful games, including Hero Wars, Island Questaway, and Throne Rush. The company also hints at the possibility of adding more studios to their lineup, which currently includes Cubic Games and Dragon Machines.
