The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Discovering the Great Plateau
In the world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players are given the exciting opportunity to explore an enhanced version of Hyrule that was first introduced in the previous game, Breath of the Wild. With vast landscapes to traverse, including familiar environments and new areas to uncover, it can sometimes be challenging to locate beloved locations from the previous game. This guide aims to help players find the Great Plateau in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Locating the Great Plateau
At the start of Breath of the Wild, players emerged from a cave and were greeted by a sprawling environment teeming with ruins, shrines, and dangerous adversaries. The Great Plateau, an island suspended in the sky, initially seemed vast. However, thorough exploration revealed that it was only a small segment of the entire game world.
To revisit the Great Plateau in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players should be aware that it is no longer a floating island. Instead, you can find it by heading southwest from Lookout Landing. The Great Plateau has now become a grounded area within Hyrule.
To begin your search for the Great Plateau, make your way to Lookout Landing. From there, follow a road that leads south, passing through the gate beyond the stables. Continue along this road due south until you come across the Hyrule Field Chasm. Afterward, proceed southwest along the main road, crossing Hyrule Field.
Continue your journey southwest, passing through the Hyrule Garrison Ruins. As you make your way, you’ll come close to the fortified Hyrule Field Skyview Tower. Stay on the road and head south from the tower until you reach an intersection with a road stretching from east to west, situated at the base of a tall stone wall. On the map screenshot above, this point is clearly marked.
At this intersection, you’ll find the northern edge of the Great Plateau directly ahead of you. The tall rock wall forms the base of the plateau. To access it, simply climb one of the sides. Personally, I recommend scaling the wall just past the intersection, to the right of the entrance to the Great Plateau Foothill Cave. Look for a low point that you can ascend to reach the area where the Great Plateau North Chasm is located. This serves as an excellent starting point for exploring both the Great Plateau in the overworld and delving into the Depths.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
