8BitDo Releases Wireless Controller in Partnership with SNK
8BitDo, known for its innovative controller designs, has collaborated with Japanese publisher SNK to create a wireless controller that faithfully replicates the iconic Neo Geo CD controller.
The 8BitDo NEOGEO CD Wireless Controller is set to launch on August 15 and will retail for $34.99. As an extra treat for fans, four limited edition styles will also be available, showcasing characters and iconography from the beloved game, The King of Fighters ’97.
Equipped with Bluetooth and 2.4g connectivity, similar to the highly acclaimed 8BitDo Ultimate and 8BitDo Arcade Stick, two of the top Nintendo Switch controllers on the market, this wireless controller offers versatility. Additionally, it can be connected using a USB-C cable for those who prefer a wired setup.
Notably, in addition to its compatibility with Nintendo Switch through Bluetooth, the controller is officially supported by PC, Android, and even the Neo Geo Mini console. The Neo Geo Mini is a modern, miniature arcade machine that boasts an impressive collection of 40 classic Neo Geo titles.
One of the most exciting features of the 8BitDo NEOGEO CD Wireless Controller is its faithful recreation of the original Neo Geo CD pad’s clicky analog stick. This makes it an excellent choice for arcade and fighting games. Moreover, true to 8BitDo’s commitment to quality, the controller is expected to feature Hall effect technology or a similar mechanism in its sticks to ensure durability and prevent any unwanted drifting.
Other notable features of the controller include the addition of shoulder buttons, a turbo function, and customizable button layouts. The 8BitDo mobile app is expected to handle the customization of button layouts. Overall, the 8BitDo NEOGEO CD Wireless Controller offers a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation, making it an ideal choice for retro arcade classics on PC and mobile platforms.
In other hardware news, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has recently hinted at potential backwards compatibility for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 during a shareholders’ Q&A session.
