Gylt is a Delicate Horror Game for All

Horror Games for a Younger Audience: Introducing Gylt

When it comes to horror games, the usual suspects come to mind: Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Amnesia, to name a few. However, these titles are not suitable for younger audiences. Unlike movies or books, the video game industry has been lacking in horror games geared towards kids. That is, until now. Tequila Works brings you Gylt, a unique horror game that is suitable for players of all ages.

The Origin Story: Nightmares Come to Life

Gylt is a deeply personal game that was inspired by the real-life experience of one of our team members. Their little cousin had been a victim of bullying at school, and this terrifying reality served as the foundation for the game. In Gylt, players join young protagonist Sally on her quest to find her missing cousin, Emily. Along the way, she will navigate a twisted and dangerous version of the city, encountering her cousin’s worst nightmares. “Fear the shapes, shape the fears” becomes the game’s tagline as Sally must hide from or confront these monsters using only her trusty flashlight.

Addressing the Seriousness of Bullying

While Gylt is a game meant to entertain and scare players, it also tackles the serious issue of bullying. During development, our team worked closely with professional psychologists to ensure that the portrayal of bullying in the game was handled with care. We are also proud to announce that we are collaborating with Safe in Our World, an international organization dedicated to mental health in the gaming community. If you are struggling or need help, resources are available at Safeinourworld.org.

Inspired by Horror Greats

Gylt draws inspiration from some of the best horror works in literature and film. The name “Bachman” may ring a bell for horror literature enthusiasts, as it was the pseudonym used by Stephen King in the ’70s. In the game, Bachman serves as the name of the school. We also took inspiration from Neil Gaiman’s “Coraline” and Alan Wake, incorporating their eerie atmosphere into Gylt.

A Game for All Audiences

While Gylt is designed with younger players in mind, it is by no means exclusive to them. The game contains no gore, profanity, or realistic weapons, making it accessible to players of all ages. The creature designs, atmospheric visuals, and haunting music will send chills down anyone’s spine. All players will face the challenge of confronting or evading monsters, solving puzzles, and uncovering the story of Bethewood city and its inhabitants through hidden collectibles and writings on the walls.

The Power of Music

No horror creation is complete without its chilling score. That’s why we enlisted world-renowned composer Cris Velasco, known for his work on games like Carrion and Vader Immortal, to create the soundtrack for Gylt. His music sets the stage for a truly immersive and terrifying experience.

Gylt is Available Now

Lucky for you, Gylt is already available on Xbox Series and Xbox One. Don’t miss your chance to play this spine-tingling game and uncover its mysteries for yourself.
