Twitch Introduces New Stories Feature for Streamers
Twitch, the popular live streaming platform, is launching a new feature called Stories. This feature allows streamers to connect with their followers even when they’re not streaming live. Similar to other social media platforms, Stories on Twitch will last for 24 hours and will be accessible through the Twitch mobile app. The announcement was made during TwitchCon Paris, along with several other new features joining the platform.
One of the upcoming features is the Discovery Feed, which is a scrollable feed in the Twitch app consisting of short streamer clips. This feed will include clips from both live and non-live streamers, making it easier for viewers to discover new content. Streamers will also have the option to tag their favorite clips, giving them priority in the Discovery Feed. Additionally, the clip editor will be improved, with mobile access and the ability to export clips directly to TikTok.
It’s important to note that while Twitch is making these improvements with a mobile-first approach, it does not aim to become a complete social media platform. According to Twitch’s product VP Jeremy Forrester, “We’re not building the Feeds to compete with TikTok… We want to help augment streamers’ livestreams and help them engage with their communities.” The focus remains on live streaming, which Forrester believes to be the heart of everything that Twitch does.
During the TwitchCon Paris event, several other additions were announced as well. One of them is a new advertising feature that shows an ad countdown in the chat box, allowing both streamers and viewers to prepare for incoming ads. Moderators now also have the ability to share ban information and comments with each other, enhancing the safety measures for streamers. The Alerts feature will be integrated with Shield Mode to prevent inappropriate alerts, and streamers will soon be able to collaborate and stream together using Guest Star.
Twitch is committed to providing integrated solutions with a safety-first approach. Forrester emphasized, “We operate with the mindset of safety by design, which is as we’re building the new product, we have to be thinking about safety first.” With these updates, Twitch aims to bring more value to streamers while ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all users.
