How to Download and Install Mods in Don’t Starve Together

In the past, players had to manually download and install mods by placing them in the “mods” folder. However, since January 1st, 2023, Klei’s forum download section has been removed, and the Steam page has become the most reliable source for installing mods.

Follow these steps to download and install mods in Don’t Starve Together:

  1. Go to the Don’t Starve Together workshop page on Steam.
  2. Choose your desired mods.
  3. It is recommended to check the “Top Rated All Time” mods first, as they offer high-quality features and compatibility with other mods.
  4. There are three types of mods in Don’t Starve Together:
  • Server-only mods: These mods are active on the server when it is created. Players joining the server do not need to install these mods.
  • Client-only mods: These mods only affect the client side and do not have any impact on other players. They mainly modify the user interface and interface elements, rather than the game mechanics.
  • All client mods: All players on a server must have these mods in order to play. If a player does not have the required mods when joining a server, Steam will automatically download and enable the all-client mod.

On the mod’s detail page, simply click on the “Subscribe” button to start the download and installation process.

Activate Mods in Don’t Starve Together

After downloading the mods, it’s time to activate them in the game:

  1. Open Don’t Starve Together.
  2. Click on the “Mods” tab in the main menu screen.
  3. In the Mods menu, you will find three options:

  4. All the downloaded server mods will be listed here. Simply activate them and click on the “Create World/Resume World” button.
