How to Get Thread in Project Zomboid
If you want to ensure a good night’s sleep or need materials for stitching deep wounds, thread is an indispensable material in Project Zomboid.
Furthermore, thread plays a crucial role in leveling up your tailoring skill, as you gain experience points by obtaining thread from ripping clothes.
There are two ways to obtain thread in Project Zomboid:
1. Searching in Containers
Thread can be found in various containers such as sheds, crates, bookshelves, specialized warehouses, stores, and even some vehicles. Additionally, there is a small chance of finding thread in first-aid kits.
When searching for sewing kits in places like palaces or drawers (e.g., bathrooms), you’ll likely come across thread as well.
2. Ripping Clothes
While thread can be found in containers, it is relatively rare in Project Zomboid. Therefore, a reliable way to obtain thread is by ripping pieces of clothing.
There are three types of clothes in Project Zomboid: cotton, denim, and leather. Ripping denim and leather requires scissors in your inventory.
To collect clothes, loot zombies, explore clothing stores, and check wardrobes. Once you have the necessary clothes and optionally scissors, right-click on the clothes and select “Rip Clothing” followed by “One” or “All”. Depending on the material of the clothing, you will likely obtain ripped sheets, denim strips, or leather strips. However, there is no guarantee of acquiring thread with each attempt.
The higher your tailoring skill level, the greater your chance of obtaining thread from ripped clothes. At lower levels like 0 or 1, you may need to rip around 15 or 20 pieces of clothing to obtain a single thread. However, at level 5, you are likely to acquire a thread with each ripping attempt.
