Metroid Prime 2 Remastered: A Possibility?
Earlier this year, the highly anticipated release of Metroid Prime Remastered on the Nintendo Switch was met with resounding praise from both critics and fans. This achievement demonstrated that Retro Studios, who had been on a long hiatus since Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, still possesses the ability to develop incredibly polished video games. Naturally, this success prompted discussions among fans about the potential for remasters of Metroid Prime 2 and 3. Well-known journalist and credible leaker Jeff Grubb previously hinted at the possibility, and he recently revisited the topic, suggesting that a Metroid Prime 2 Remastered could be on the horizon sooner than expected.
An Important Update from Jeff Grubb
During the latest episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast, which streamed on Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess YouTube channel, Grubb shared his insights. In response to a question about his earlier comment, where he had implied that Metroid Prime 2 may not receive as extensive of an upgrade as the first game, Grubb reaffirmed his stance. He stated that if there have been any changes to those plans, he is not aware of them.
Grubb went on to indicate that the remastered edition of Metroid Prime 2 would likely include modern controls, HD visuals, and some additional features, although it may not receive the same level of attention to detail and care as its predecessor. However, Grubb did dispel speculation that the remaster would come bundled with Metroid Prime 3. Despite this, he still believes that the overall presentation of the remaster will be quite impressive.
While it would be disappointing if Grubb’s claim about the level of effort put into Metroid Prime 2 Remastered holds true, especially since it is my personal favorite game of the trilogy, I must admit that as someone who doesn’t often play remakes or substantial remasters, a straightforward HD port would still pique my interest.
