Overwatch 2 is expanding its reach and will soon be available to all players on the popular gaming platform, Steam. This move by Blizzard marks the first of what is expected to be many titles from the company making their way to Steam.
Blizzard has announced that on August 10, Overwatch 2 will be added to the Steam library. In its efforts to attract a wider range of players, the studio sees this as an opportune moment for the launch of a Blizzard title on the platform.
While Overwatch 2 will continue to be free-to-play on Steam, players who wish to access all the skins, icons, and emotes will need to purchase a premium battle pass at a cost of $10 / £8.60 / AUD$15.40.
This addition to Steam aligns with the release of Overwatch 2: Invasions. With new and immersive in-game experiences, the introduction of the first-ever PvE story missions, exciting new PvP maps, and the arrival of a new hero, Blizzard is setting the stage for an exciting journey for both existing and new players.
Playing Overwatch 2 on Steam comes with all the benefits available on the platform, including access to your friends list, the ability to invite friends to games, and the opportunity to earn Steam achievements. However, similar to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, players will be required to set up and sign in with a battle.net account in order to enable cross-platform play.
In a blog post, Blizzard expressed its enthusiasm for the response from the Overwatch community, eagerly anticipating the feedback from both veterans and newcomers who join through Steam.
This move marks an exciting progression for the publisher. It is hoped that this is just the beginning of Activision Blizzard’s catalog reaching a wider audience through the Steam platform, making these exceptional games accessible to more players.
