Final Fantasy XIV Expansion Announced at Las Vegas Fanfest
In exciting news for fans of Final Fantasy XIV, it was revealed at the Las Vegas Fanfest that the game will be expanding to Xbox systems. Starting with an open beta in patch 6.5, players can expect to experience the popular MMO on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
The keynote presentation highlighted some of the benefits of playing FFXIV on Xbox, including faster loading times and 4K support on Series X. However, it’s important to note that this will be a digital-only release, meaning players will need to download the game directly onto their consoles.
One exciting aspect of this announcement is that the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, will be fully playable on Xbox at release. This means that Xbox players can seamlessly transition from the open beta in spring to the full release version in summer 2024. It’s unclear at this time if the game will be available on Game Pass.
With this addition, Final Fantasy XIV will now be available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and Xbox systems, providing full console coverage for the popular MMO. The developers have been preparing for the influx of new players by adding data centers throughout 2022.
While the expansion is certainly exciting news, there are concerns about server capacity. The release of the previous expansion, Endwalker, saw servers overloaded, so it remains to be seen if the addition of Xbox will put additional strain on the servers for Dawntrail.
Nevertheless, starting this spring, Xbox Series X and S owners will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant world of Eorzea from the comfort of their television screens.
