Fighting Queen Gibdo in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Once you reach the Lightning Temple in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll encounter Queen Gibdo, the boss of the dungeon. This guide will help you defeat her, even if you haven’t completed the main Gerudo questline and don’t have Riju’s lightning ability.
Primary Weaknesses of Queen Gibdo
In the fight against Queen Gibdo, she will begin by skittering around and shooting concentrated blasts of sand, similar to the Gleeoks’ elemental beams. However, her attack is easier to avoid. Queen Gibdo is invulnerable to damage by default, but elemental attacks such as fire, electricity, or even the flashbang effect of Dazzlefruit can bypass her invincibility. It’s recommended to use arrows with elemental materials attached due to Queen Gibdo’s fast movement speed. Aim carefully and try to shoot her when she briefly stops in her tracks.
Dealing Damage to Queen Gibdo
Once you land an elemental attack on Queen Gibdo, she becomes vulnerable to regular attacks for a limited time. However, she will create sand tornadoes while moving away from you. Without Riju’s lightning ability, you’ll need to land multiple attacks to stun her. One-handed weapons or spears work best for this. Avoid her tornado attack by running away and circling around the tornadoes to continue your assault.
Stunning From Range
Alternatively, you can use arrows to stun Queen Gibdo. Regular arrows will eventually stun her, but equipping your arrows with Bomb Flowers or other powerful attachments will speed up the process. Be aware that the tornadoes can block your shots, so move to the side when they appear. After stunning Queen Gibdo, she will recover and become invulnerable. Dodge her charge attack and wait until she stops charging before attacking again.
Second Phase of the Battle
When Queen Gibdo’s health is depleted halfway, four Gibdo nests will spawn hordes of grounded and flying Gibdos while Queen Gibdo fires sand blasts at you from the air. To prevent the Gibdos from overwhelming you, use Riju’s lightning ability on the glowing purple weak points of the nests. Alternatively, Bomb Flowers are also effective and have no cooldown. Destroy the nests to stop the spawning of Gibdos.
With the nests destroyed, focus on taking out the remaining Gibdos using the same strategies as before. Dazzlefruits can immobilize multiple Gibdos, allowing you to pick them off with arrows. Once the Gibdos are dealt with, Queen Gibdo will likely still be airborne. Wait for her to dart on her own before shooting an elemental arrow at her. Avoid her attacks and use the previous strategies to defeat her, keeping in mind that she can produce five tornadoes instead of three in this phase of the battle.
By utilizing these strategies, you can conquer Queen Gibdo without relying on Riju’s lightning ability and overcome one of the trickiest story bosses in Tears of the Kingdom.
