Mortal Kombat 1 Introduces Geras as a Playable Character
A new trailer has been released for Mortal Kombat 1, showcasing the addition of Geras as a playable character in the game’s roster. Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm have unveiled this exciting news, preparing fans for the highly anticipated release on September 19.
This trailer highlights two key characters: Liu Kang, the original protagonist of Mortal Kombat, and Geras, the guardian of time and protector of the Hourglass. The Hourglass is an artifact that controls the flow of time within the Mortal Kombat universe.
Titled “Keepers of Time,” the trailer introduces Geras in his redesigned form for this semi-reboot of the series. While he remains recognizable, there are noticeable changes to his model and attire.
The trailer seamlessly transitions between cutscenes and actual gameplay footage, all captured using the Mortal Kombat 1 engine. During a conversation with Liu Kang about altering the timeline to eliminate certain characters, some crucial plot details are unveiled.
In the video, we witness Geras, referred to as Liu Kang’s “old friend,” showcasing his formidable combat skills. The trailer hints at a foreboding outcome for the Fire God’s vision of a new world order. As Liu Kang explains, “Geras is the guardian of the hourglass, a celestial object that exists beyond the realms. The hourglass governs time and destiny.”
Geras warns Liu Kang, saying, “I have observed you with the hourglass. You relish your role as Earthrealm’s protector. However, when you reset history, you have altered the destinies of certain wrongdoers in order to neutralize them. Your pursuit of peace may already be compromised.”
Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on September 19 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. During San Diego Comic-Con, the Kombat Pack roster was revealed, featuring characters such as Peacemaker and Homelander.
