[Update – November 21 @ 4:17 PM CT] Originally, the article stated that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet offered numerous customization options to choose from. However, according to players, the options available fall well below those of previous installments. The text of the article has been changed to reflect this.]
While exploring the Paldea region in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and experiencing the game’s struggles with performance, you might find yourself wanting to change the appearance of your player character. Unfortunately, it seems that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet do not offer as many character customization options as previous games, at least in the base game. Players have discovered that both games only provide four preset school outfits to choose from, along with a few additional clothing items. However, the process of changing your appearance is relatively easy.
Fortunately, Game Freak has addressed the lack of clothing options in the base games with the release of the new DLC called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. This DLC introduces a total of eight outfits across both games, with four exclusive outfits for each game. While these outfits can be purchased right away, the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk expansions, which are the main content of the DLC, will be available later this year. According to my research, these expansions will introduce at least two new outfits to Scarlet and Violet: the Traditional Jinbei Outfit and the Blueberry Academy Uniform.
Method for changing character appearance
While exploring, you can easily access the clothing customization menu in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by pressing the left button on the D-pad. From there, you can select your desired clothing items by pressing the A button. Remember to save your new outfit by pressing the B button.
To preview clothing before trying it on, simply press the Y button. Additionally, you can use the + button on the clothing menu to access a separate menu where you can modify facial features such as eye color, eye shape, and lip shape.
Changing hair in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Unfortunately, neither of the aforementioned menus allows players to change their hairstyle. To do so, you’ll need to visit a hair salon located in most towns within the games. Keep in mind that you’ll have to spend 3,000 Pokémon bucks for a new hairstyle and color. Confirm your choices by pressing the + button or simply press the B button to leave the salon without changing your hair.
By following these simple steps, you can make the most of the limited character customization options in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Additionally, you can visit clothing stores in various towns to purchase items like backpacks and hats to make your school uniform a bit more interesting.
