Striking Distance Studios Faces Layoffs
Striking Distance Studios, the game development studio known for the action horror game The Callisto Protocol, has unfortunately been hit with layoffs. According to IGN, 32 employees have been let go, including notable members such as Sebastian Marlow, who served as the production coordinator, Nora Falcon, the associate producer, Matthew Smith, a senior environment artist, and Matt Christopherson, a VFX artist.
Strategic Changes Impact Staff
Striking Distance Studios’ parent company, Krafton, has made strategic changes that affect the studio’s priorities to ensure the success of its current and future projects. As a result, these changes have led to the unfortunate layoffs of 32 employees. In response, Krafton emphasizes their commitment to supporting the departing team members by providing outplacement services and generous severance packages.

Founded in 2019 by Glen Schofield, co-creator of Dead Space, along with other industry veterans, Striking Distance Studios is known for its debut game, The Callisto Protocol, which was released in December 2022. Set in the year 2320 in a prison situated on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto, the game revolves around an inmate escaping during an alien outbreak. Upon its release, The Callisto Protocol garnered mixed reviews from critics and players alike, receiving a 6 out of 10 score in our review. Furthermore, it was reported in January that the game did not meet sales expectations given its substantial budget.
Latest Expansion Release
On June 28, The Callisto Protocol’s story expansion, titled “Final Transmission,” was made available to players, offering fresh content and experiences.
