The Impact of an Austrian-themed Jujutsu High TikTok on the Modern Season of Jujutsu Kaisen
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen started off with a powerful and tragic arc, taking viewers back in time before returning to the present day. This arc captivated fans with its fast-paced action and compelling storytelling, focusing on one of the show’s most intriguing relationships. As we return to the modern day storyline, it’s bittersweet to bid farewell to the young Gojo and Geto.
However, for me, there’s an added layer of embarrassment when I think about returning to Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi. This embarrassment stems from a particular TikTok video from 2021 that has had a lasting impact on my perception of these characters.
The Impact of “Me visiting Jujutsu High in Austria”
One TikTok video titled “Me visiting Jujutsu High in Austria” by a user named StoeDan caught my attention. In this video, StoeDan takes a virtual stroll through Austria and encounters Austrian versions of the main Jujutsu Kaisen characters. These characters are given German names, dressed in attire that represents Austrian culture, and edited into the scenery of the country.
For example, Kugisaki Nobara becomes Kuchlsacker Nobarbara, wearing a blue dirndl instead of her usual school uniform and positioned in front of a Christmas shop. While I may not fully understand the cultural nuances portrayed in these exaggerated stereotypes, I can’t help but find it amusing to say “Kuchlsacker Nobarbara?!” out loud.
The TikTok video found its way into my life while I was in the midst of watching the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Given my TikTok obsession and the state of the world during the pandemic, this video became ingrained in my mind. It has now reached a point where I automatically associate the characters of Jujutsu Kaisen with their “Austrian-sona” and have to correct myself mentally.
The Characters in Austria TikTok series
This TikTok video was not StoeDan’s first venture into creating an “X Characters in Austria” series. His initial video showcased only Gojo, while subsequent videos featured the Jujutsu Kaisen trio and even characters from other anime. This effectively established an Anime in Austria cinematic universe, providing amusement for anime fans.
However, none of these subsequent videos had the same impact on me as the first one. The only exception is the TikTok where he replaced Jujutsu Kaisen’s panda character with a brown bear called “braun bear,” which deserves an honorable mention.
In 2022, StoeDan’s Anime in Austria series seemed to have died down. However, with the new season of Jujutsu Kaisen underway, “Me visiting Jujutsu High in Austria” has once again taken center stage in my mind, occupying a permanent residence without any rent.
