Hydreigon Weaknesses and Best Counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Finding Hydreigon’s weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can be a bit challenging due to its various types in the raid. However, its base type is Dark/Dragon, which makes it quad-weak to Fairy-type Pokémon. But Hydreigon is a powerful and formidable non-legendary Pokémon in the game, making it harder to beat.
To understand Hydreigon’s capabilities in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it boasts impressive stats across the board. With a Special Attack of 125 and a Speed of 98, it can easily decimate opposing teams. Its physical and special defenses are also respectable at 90 each. Due to its exceptional qualities, defeating Hydreigon requires careful planning.
The Hydreigon Raid
Here are the moves that Hydreigon uses in the current raid event:
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Dark Pulse
- Snarl
- Nasty Plot
- Scary Face
This movepool can be devastating if you’re not careful, especially with the powerful Earth Power, Dragon Pulse, and Dark Pulse attacks. Let’s explore some counter options to defeat Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The first counter I recommend is Iron Valiant.
Counters to Hydreigon
Iron Valiant is my personal choice as a counter to Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Despite its low Special Defense of 60, you can offset this weakness by using Drain Punch to heal yourself. Additionally, Iron Valiant quad-resists Dark-type moves and is immune to Dragon-type moves, making it an effective wall against Hydreigon. While Iron Valiant naturally starts out faster, be aware that the CPU may use Scary Face to reduce your Speed. Iron Valiant also has access to various moves outside of its type, such as Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, Fire/Ice/Thunder Punch, and more.
If you don’t have access to Iron Valiant in Pokémon Scarlet, you can use Slither Wing as an alternative. Slither Wing, which is exclusive to Pokémon Violet, is actually bulkier than Iron Valiant, boasting a Special Defense of 105. It resists Ground and Dark moves, meaning only Dragon Pulse will deal neutral damage. Although Slither Wing lacks Drain Punch, it has Leech Life as a substitute healing move. Additionally, Slither Wing has access to moves of various types, including Fire, Electric, Flying, Psychic, and Ground.
Special Attacking Counter Options for Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
If you prefer a Special Attacking option, you can consider Pokémon like Hatterene, Sylveon, or Flutter Mane. These Pokémon have high Special Attack and decent Special Defense, allowing them to withstand Hydreigon’s attacks. They also resist some of Hydreigon’s moves, making them suitable choices. Sylveon may not have extensive type coverage like the other two, but its Psychic and Moonblast to Shadow Ball and Magical Leaf moves should suffice. Flutter Mane has access to a wide range of types, so type coverage isn’t an issue. Hatterene gains access to Grass, Dark, Ghost, and more.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available for purchase on the Nintendo Store.
