Destiny 2 director promises free PvP map pack following recent backlash

Destiny 2 Game Director Promises Free PvP Map in Response to Backlash

In the wake of negative feedback to the recent State of the Game post, Destiny 2’s game director has vowed to release a free PvP map next year. The original post from Bungie, which stated that the studio did not have the resources to release more than one PvP map per year, did not sit well with the community, especially considering Bungie’s large size and Sony ownership.

Joe Blackburn, the game director for Destiny 2, has addressed the backlash and concerns in an apology video posted on Twitter (via PC Gamer).

Blackburn admitted that the State of the Game post fell short of player expectations in terms of communication. “It didn’t provide the high-level vision that we normally provide,” Blackburn said. “Truly, a bunch of us were heads down working on The Final Shape and weren’t able to give it the care and love we normally put in… And that’s nobody’s fault but mine.”

In the video, Blackburn outlined the team’s plans for the future of Destiny 2, including improvements to PvP, armor, and communication strategy. He also confirmed that a free PvP map pack will be released next year, retracting the previous statement about resource limitations.

Bungie will also be adding more modes to the game’s core playlists and implementing a dedicated PvP team. This team, referred to as the “PvP strike team,” will focus on addressing community feedback and addressing the biggest issues facing the Destiny 2 PvP community.

The response to Blackburn’s video has been positive, with many community members expressing support and gratitude for the acknowledgement and commitment to improvement.

Bungie is currently gearing up for the upcoming reveal of The Final Shape, the final DLC for The Light and Darkness Saga.
