If you’re having trouble defeating Ansur in BG3, don’t underestimate the power of this dragon. While the fight can be challenging, taking down Ansur will reward you with legendary loot and valuable rewards. In this guide, we’ll show you how to defeat Ansur in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Defeat Ansur in Baldur’s Gate 3
To defeat Ansur in BG3, you must first solve the Legend of Ansur Book puzzle and all the puzzles in the Wyrmway Dungeon. These include the Chamber of Justice, Chamber of Insight, Chamber of Strategy, and the Chamber of Courage. After solving these puzzles, proceed to the Dragon’s Sanctum chamber to engage in combat with Ansur. Interacting with Ansur will trigger a cutscene involving the Emperor.
Ansur is a level 17 Undead Dragon with 400 HP. You’ll also face Water Myrmidons and Elementals during the fight. However, it’s crucial to focus your attacks on Ansur rather than the other creatures.
Here are some tips and strategies to help you defeat Ansur in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Use the Dance Macabre spell from the Necromancy of Thay. This level 6 spell summons six Ghouls until your next Long Rest.
- If your character is a Wizard or if you have Gale in your party, utilize the Globe of Invulnerability spell. This creates a protective barrier that grants immunity to all incoming damage.
- Avoid close melee attacks and instead use ranged or area-of-effect attacks. Ansur can use Attack of Opportunity to counter melee strikes.
- Position your party members strategically around Ansur to minimize the damage they receive.
- Refrain from using lightning attacks because Ansur can absorb and manipulate electricity due to the Hoarding Energy effect. These attacks may also blind your party members and cause minor damage.
- Deal as much damage as possible to Ansur in fewer turns. For example, you can use the Arrow of Dragon Slaying, which inflicts double damage to dragons and deals 42-56 damage.
