Samsung Outpaces Apple in Smartphone Sales by Over 1 Billion Devices
According to data from CasinosEnLigne, between Q1 2013 and Q2 2023, Samsung sold 3.08 billion smartphones, which is 42% higher than the 2.07 iPhones shipped by Apple in the same period.
Samsung and Apple are the dominant players in the smartphone market, with Apple traditionally leading the way until Samsung caught up.
2015 proved to be a breakthrough year for Samsung, shipping a record 320.9 million smartphones compared to Apple’s 231.5 million iPhones, a 38% difference. On the other hand, Apple’s peak year was in 2021, with 234.9 million units sold, which was 16% lower than the 272 million Samsung phones sold during the same period.
In the first half of 2023, Samsung continued to outperform Apple, selling 114 million phones compared to Apple’s 97.7 million iPhones. However, over the past decade, Samsung experienced an 18% decrease in sales, while Apple saw a 47% increase.
Apple Surpasses Samsung as Market Leader
Despite consistently outselling Apple products, Apple took back the lead position in July 2023. Apple captured 28.39% of the market share, up from 27.5% in July 2022, while Samsung’s market share dropped from 28.17% in July 2022 to 24.22% in July 2023.
The reasons behind this shift are unclear, but Apple’s renowned brand loyalty may be driving its resurgence. Apple has transformed into more than just a manufacturer, becoming a lifestyle brand that prompts users from all over the world to line up for the latest hardware.
Will Apple maintain its position as the market leader? Only time will tell. The unveiling of new handsets and compelling reasons for upgrading existing phones by both manufacturers in the coming months will provide greater clarity.
Earlier this month, the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of Apple in its ongoing legal battle with Epic Games.
