RPG Fans Rejoice: Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming to Xbox Series X|S This Year
Exciting news for RPG enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox – Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke has confirmed that the highly anticipated title will be launching on Xbox Series X|S later this year.
Vincke took to Twitter today to share the news, stating, “Super happy to confirm that after meeting [Phil Spencer] yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.”
According to Vincke, all the improvements will be present in the Xbox version, including split-screen co-op on the Series X. However, the Series S will not feature split-screen co-op but will support cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.
The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox has been delayed due to the technical challenge of implementing split-screen co-op on the Series S console. Michael Douse, the director of publishing at Larian Studios, previously mentioned this issue in a tweet, stating, “We’ve said many times in the past that the issue is getting split-screen working on the Series S, which is taking more time, but is in progress. This is a huge technical hurdle, but we are unable to release the game on the ecosystem without this feature.”
Interestingly, it seems that the developers have opted to remove the split-screen feature, although it’s unclear what specifically led to this change and if it is the solution Vincke is referring to.
Many fans were expecting a release date in 2024 based on earlier statements from Douse, but this recent update will surely come as a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, there is no announced launch date for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S at the moment, so eager fans will have to keep an eye out for further announcements.
