Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming to New-Gen Xbox Consoles, but Without Split-Screen Co-op on Series S
In a meeting between Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke and Xbox head Phil Spencer, it has been confirmed that the highly-acclaimed RPG will be launching on new-gen Xbox consoles later this year. However, there is a catch – the Xbox Series S version will be missing a multiplayer feature: split-screen co-op.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been one of the biggest surprise hits of 2023, receiving high scores and earning praise from Early Access players. While it recently launched on PC, it is set to release on PlayStation 5 next month. Larian Studios initially expressed its desire to bring the game to Xbox this year, but there were concerns about parity issues between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S that might cause a delay until 2024.
Fortunately, a solution has been found, and the RPG will indeed arrive on Xbox this year. Swen Vincke shared the news on Twitter, saying, “Super happy to confirm that after meeting [Phil Spencer] yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time. All improvements will be there, with split-screen co-op on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen co-op, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.”
While PC and PlayStation players have been enjoying Baldur’s Gate 3, Xbox players can now look forward to experiencing the game as well. Although cross-save progression is supported between Steam and Xbox Series X/S, as well as Steam and PlayStation 5, it’s important to note that crossplay is not available. Players on different platforms won’t be able to play together.
Although the launch date for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox has not been announced yet, this confirmation is undoubtedly exciting news for Xbox players. Stay tuned for more updates.
