When and How to Change Classes in Fire Emblem Engage
In Fire Emblem Engage, there are more than forty different Classes that you can utilize to enhance the power and abilities of your Units on the battlefield. However, the Base Classes that Units come equipped with may not always be the best fit for their stat block. That’s why knowing when and how to change the Class of your Units is crucial for overall success.
The Importance of Changing Classes
In Fire Emblem Engage, Base Classes and Advanced Classes level up at the same rate. However, changing or Promoting a Unit’s Class will reset their level to 1. Therefore, it’s important to Change or Promote Classes as soon as possible to ensure that you have the strongest Units on your team and to prevent them from falling behind in levels.
Changing and Promoting Classes
In Fire Emblem Engage, Unit Classes can be changed or Promoted using limited items called Master Seals and Second Seals. Master Seals are used to Promote a Unit from a Base Class to an Advanced Class, while Second Seals are used to change the Base Class of your Unit.
To obtain Master Seals and Second Seals, you’ll need to progress through the initial Chapters of the main story. They can also be purchased from the Item Shop in Somniel, which is unlocked after completing Chapter 4. However, these items will only become available for purchase after certain Chapters and in limited quantities.
Here is a list of Chapters where you can receive Master Seals and Second Seals:
- Chapter 7: 1x Master Seal (dropped by Hortensia)
- Paralogue: Mysterious Merchant – 1x Master Seal (located in the Treasure Chest)
- Chapter 9: Item Shop (Restock: 3x Second Seals, 1x Master Seal)
- Chapter 10: 1x Master Seal (dropped by Hyacinth)
- Chapter 11: 1x Master Seal (dropped by an archer standing guard at the exit)
- Chapter 12: Item Shop (Restock: 3x Second Seals, 2x Master Seals), 1x Master Seal (gifted from saving the NPC)
- Chapter 14: Item Shop (Restock: 3x Second Seals, 2x Master Seals)
- Chapter 15: Item Shop (Restock: 3x Second Seals, 2x Master Seals)
- Chapter 16: 1x Master Seal (dropped by Marni)
- Chapter 17: Item Shop (Restock: 3x Second Seals, 2x Master Seal), 1x Master Seal (dropped by Veyle)
- The Azure Twin Paralogue: 1x Second Seal (located within the left Treasure Chest)
- Chapter 18: 1x Second Seal (located within the right Treasure Chest of combat map)
Promoting and Changing Classes
To Promote a Base Class to an Advanced Class with a Master Seal, the Unit must reach level 10 within that Base Class. However, there is no minimum EXP requirement for changing a Unit’s Class with a Second Seal, so you can use it at any level.
Since both Base Classes and Advanced Classes gain EXP at the same rate, it’s recommended to prioritize Promoting or Changing Classes as soon as possible. This will give you access to better stats, abilities, and builds, while also ensuring that these Units don’t fall too far behind their allies, as they start from level 1.
It’s advisable to select two or three Units to Promote or Change for each option and do so once you gain access to Second Seals and Master Seals. Gradually Promote or change additional Units as you progress through the story and acquire more Seals.
Boosting EXP for Promoted Units
If your newly Promoted or Class-changed Unit is lagging behind in terms of level and power, there are several methods to help them catch up:
- Complete Skirmishes, Tower of Trials, and Paralogues
- Let powerful Units deal the majority of damage to enemies, then have the low-level Unit deliver the killing blow to gain additional EXP
- Repeat this method over multiple battles to level up the Units quickly, especially in the early-mid game
However, consider carefully whether changing or Promoting a Unit’s Class will benefit you in the long run. Making this decision too late in the game may hinder the Unit’s power unless you’re willing to spend significant time grinding for EXP.
