The Possibility of Multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC
Cyberpunk 2077, known for its single-player experience, was once promoted to have multiplayer functionality. However, the new Phantom Liberty DLC, accompanied by a free update, has raised hopes among fans for the inclusion of multiplayer. So, has multiplayer finally arrived with these additions to the game?

The Disappointing Truth
Unfortunately, neither the DLC nor the free update introduces any form of multiplayer feature to Cyberpunk 2077. Whether it is teaming up with a friend against enemies or engaging in PvP battles, players will not be able to fulfill those wishes.
You might have already guessed the reason behind the absence of multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077. It can be attributed to the troubled launch of the game in late 2020. In an interview with Eurogamer last year, Phillip Weber, the senior quest designer and coordinator, revealed that CD Projekt Red had shifted its priorities to ensure a stable and relatively bug-free single-player experience. Consequently, the development team had to put aside features like multiplayer, at least temporarily.
Several months have passed since that interview, and there have been no official updates on the potential introduction of multiplayer functionality. It is now highly likely that plans for multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077 have been abandoned, although there is no definitive confirmation. It is possible that if CD Projekt Red decides to develop a sequel, multiplayer may be incorporated there, especially if the launch is more stable, allowing the studio ample time to explore the feature.
