Unlocking the Different Endings in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
There are four unique endings in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, each requiring you to make crucial decisions. When you reach a specific point in the story, you’ll be faced with a choice. We’ll explain the options here, with minimal spoilers, and provide a detailed breakdown of what happens in each path. Additionally, there is a brand new ending to the main story in Phantom Liberty that does not involve Hanako and “Nocturne Op55n1.” To ensure you unlock this ending, follow our steps below.
How to Unlock Each Ending in Phantom Liberty
If you want to understand the important choices without spoilers, this section is for you. We won’t tell you which options are right or wrong for your V, letting you decide for yourself.
The first critical decision comes during the tenth mission, “Firestarter.” At this point, you will meet Songbird, and it will be just the two of you. The story branches depending on which option you choose:
- Help Songbird escape: “I’m with you.”
- Help Reed capture Songbird: “One more second…”
If you choose to help Songbird escape, you’ll progress into “The Killing Moon.” During this lengthy mission, you’ll have two endings to choose from. Here are the dialogue options:
- Pick up Songbird: “Time to go, So Mi.” or “Wake the hell up.”
- Call Reed: “Reed’ll take care of you.”
It’s important to note that if you choose to pick up Songbird, you’ll have one more opportunity to hand her over to Reed before committing to an ending. However, if you chose to help Reed capture Songbird during “Firestarter,” the endings will change dramatically. The subsequent mission will be called “Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos,” but the important decision occurs during the following mission, “Somewhat Damaged.” Here are the dialogue options:
- Kill So Mi: “Fine.”
- Spare So Mi: “Won’t do it.” or “So Mi, I need the FIA’s help. So I need you alive.”
To unlock the new ending for the main game, ensure you either hand Songbird over to Reed if you helped her escape or spare her life if you helped capture her with Reed.
Explaining the “Firestarter” Mission
Up until this point, the entire Phantom Liberty story revolves around saving Songbird from Kurt Hansen. “Firestarter” presents you with the chance to free her. Reed and Alex want you to help capture Songbird and bring her back to the FIA, but Songbird wants to escape from everyone, including Kurt Hansen. Choosing to help Songbird escape leads to chaos as the two of you fight your way out of the stadium concourse. Your goal is to reach the spaceport terminal, which is where Songbird promises the cure is located. If you opt to help Reed capture Songbird, she manages to escape, and you must work together to retrieve her. This involves ambushing a MaxTac convoy and finding her hideout where she’s connected to the blackwall.
Full Explanation of Each Ending (Spoiler Warning)
Below, we’ll provide an in-depth explanation of all four endings. Endings one and two are available if you side with Songbird, while endings three and four are options if you side with Reed. To unlock the bonus ending for the main game, you must choose either ending two or ending four. Please note that killing either Reed or Songbird will prevent you from accessing the bonus ending.
Ending #1 – Reed Dies
When you arrive at the spaceport terminal, Songbird reveals that she lied to you. There is only enough cure for one person, and she intends to take it all for herself. She explains her deception was necessary to ensure your help. Songbird apologizes, and Johnny Silverhand offers his input. At this point, you can either pick Songbird up and board the shuttle to the moon or call Reed to hand her over. Choosing the former option results in Reed emerging from the shuttle and offering a final chance to change your mind. If you refuse, you must kill Reed. As a reward, you receive Reed’s iconic pistol, Pariah. Songbird departs to the moon, and this ending does not unlock the extra ending for the main game. The only way to proceed is through the original ending quest, “Nocturne Op55n1.”
Ending #2 – Hand Over Songbird
If you are outraged by Songbird’s deception and choose to give her up to Reed, three new missions become available. During these missions, you strike a deal with Reed, ensuring that V will receive a cure. You carry Songbird to the shuttle, and Reed picks her up along with other FIA soldiers. After a couple of days, Reed contacts you and asks you to meet him at a gas station in the mission “Through Pain To Heaven.” During a brief conversation, Reed shares his plans to drive to D.C. and ponders why Songbird reached out to you instead of him. Before leaving, Reed promises to contact you soon about the cure. This concludes the Phantom Liberty ending. Continue reading to learn about the bonus ending for the main game, which Reed organizes in this scenario.
Ending #3 – Songbird Dies
During the mission “Somewhat Damaged,” when you find Songbird, you have the choice to accept her request to die on her own terms or wait until Reed arrives. If you choose to kill her, you disconnect her from the blackwall, and she passes away after apologizing. You and Reed then drive her to President Myers in the mission “Leave In Silence.” During the journey, Reed expresses frustration with himself for not being the one to save Songbird, regretting his decision to kill her. As a result, President Myers refuses to help you with a cure since Songbird is dead. To unlock the bonus ending, ensure both Reed and Songbird survive.
Ending #4 – Songbird Lives
If you refuse to kill Songbird and wait for Reed to arrive, you and Reed will pick her up together, similar to the previous ending. Together, you drive Songbird to President Myers. At your destination, the president is waiting, and Songbird is taken away on…
