Developer BB-Dev explains, “This is a recreation of the lock-picking ‘digipick’ minigame from Bethesda’s Starfield. Bethesda games always have great lockpicking minigames for some reason, and Starfield is no exception to that rule” (thanks, Polygon).

A previous version of Starfield made exploring its planets quite challenging due to “very punitive” atmosphere effects. However, Bethesda boss Todd Howard revealed that the game underwent changes during development to make it more enjoyable. This included toning down the impact of environmental hazards like extreme temperatures and radiation on players. Now, players no longer need to constantly switch spacesuits to adapt to different conditions on each planet.
