Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Introduces New Open Combat Missions
The highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continues the captivating story from its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2, and introduces exciting new Open Combat missions. In a recent blog post by the Call of Duty team, the details of these missions were revealed. Here’s everything you need to know.
Expanded Playable Area with Endless Possibilities
While most missions in Modern Warfare 3 follow a linear gameplay style, a select few Open Combat missions offer a significantly larger playable area, giving players more freedom and choice in completing their objectives.
Starting Loadout and Loot
During an Open Combat mission, players will still have a fixed objective. However, they will be assigned a starting loadout based on the mission’s narrative. This loadout includes the Spotter Scope, a valuable tool for scanning the environment, tagging enemies, discovering equipment, and identifying points of interest.
The mission area is filled with plentiful loot, including additional weapons, killstreaks, and armor plates. Players can scavenge this loot to suit their preferred playstyle. Whether it’s grabbing armor plates for a loud and aggressive approach or choosing suppressed weapons for a stealthy strategy, the choice is yours.
Freedom to Explore and Choose
Unlike traditional linear missions, Open Combat missions provide players with the freedom to explore and choose their own path. Ziplines and ascenders can be used to reach higher ground, granting better vantage points. Alongside the Tac-Map for objective overview, a minimap is available to pinpoint items and enemies in the immediate vicinity.
The minimap also displays the enemy’s alert level. When players are detected, the borders on the minimap turn yellow, indicating the enemy’s awareness without revealing the player’s exact location. If spotted, the borders turn red, confirming that the enemy knows the player’s whereabouts and may even call for reinforcements.
Tactical Retreat and Customizable Loadouts
If players find themselves outnumbered or overwhelmed, they have the option to retreat and disappear from view using an ascender and parachute. By evading the enemy’s sight for a sufficient amount of time, players can lose their pursuers and force the enemy to search the surrounding area.
Once an Open Combat mission is completed, players have the ability to replay the mission and customize their starting loadout based on the weapons and items discovered during previous playthroughs.
