Five Nights at Freddy’s Film Breaks Box-Office Records
Since its release in late October, the film adaptation of the popular horror game Five Nights at Freddy’s has shattered box-office records and established itself as a major success.
The movie debuted on October 27 and achieved an impressive $80 million in its opening weekend, making it the highest-grossing horror film of 2023. Despite also premiering on the streaming service Peacock on the same day as its theatrical release, it managed to draw in a substantial audience, becoming the most-watched title on Peacock during its first five days.
As the weeks have passed, Five Nights At Freddy’s has continued to gain momentum, accumulating over $295 million in revenue ($136 million domestically and $160 million overseas) during its month-long run in theaters. This outstanding performance has propelled it to the top of Blumhouse’s list of highest-grossing films, surpassing previous record-holders such as Split, Halloween (2018), Get Out, and Glass.
The movie, which was first announced in 2015, features actors like Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard, and is directed by Emma Tammi and produced by Blumhouse. With the success of other video game adaptations like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Last of Us, Five Nights At Freddy’s joins the ranks of highly successful films in 2023.
