Japanese Horror Legends Unite
In this dream meeting, the two titans of Japanese horror dive into discussions about the medium of Manga, their early experiences with the horror genre, and their general feelings on horror. The conversation also touches on the differences in their creative process, with Ito expressing his enjoyment of the freedom to create without much interference.
Ito’s involvement in a doomed Silent Hills project is discussed, shedding light on the differences and commonalities between the horror employed by Ito and Toyama throughout the 30-minute chat.
The conversation also includes an anecdote about a book by Ito that scared Guillermo Del Toro so much that he threw it away.
Previous episodes of The Golden Hour have featured discussions with creators and directors of Fatal Frame, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Danganronpa, and Shuhei Yoshida, the former boss of Toyama at Sony.
