Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is set for release on the Nintendo Switch in 2025, and developer Level-5 has recently unveiled an in-depth trailer that gives fans a sneak peek at what’s in store for the next installment in the beloved Professor Layton series.
The game is set in Steam Bison, America, and follows Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke on an all-new adventure. The trailer showcases point-and-click mechanics and the iconic storybook art style that fans have come to love.
While the trailer is in Japanese, English subtitles are provided. One sequence in the trailer shows Layton and Luke interacting with an inventor named Mr. Eggmuffin, who is unable to access his workshop. They then set out to solve a series of puzzles in order to gain access.
Professor Layton and The New World of Steam takes place one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future in the series’ universe. The Professor Layton series began in 2007 with Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and has since released several successful titles, with the latest being Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy in 2017.
With an impressive 18 million units sold worldwide, the Professor Layton series stands as Level-5’s best-selling franchise. While the release of Professor Layton and The New World of Steam is still a while off, Nintendo has already revealed its lineup of games for next year, including Mario vs. Donley Kong and Princess Peach: Showtime.
