Jet Force Gemini Debuts on Japanese Switch Online Service with Broken Widescreen Mode
Jet Force Gemini recently made its debut on the new Japanese Switch Online service 18+ app. However, reports have emerged that the widescreen mode is experiencing technical issues.
Nintendo World Report highlighted the problem, noting that the original N64 release fully supported a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Unfortunately, activating this feature in the latest digital version of the game results in improper scaling of the image.
“The 4:3 border does disappear, but the image is letterboxed rather than being properly stretched vertically to fill the screen. When playing docked, you could conceivably adjust your picture settings to manually scale the image, but when playing handheld there is no way to display the image correctly.”
John Rairdin, director of NWR, also shared screenshots of how the game should look at 16:9 via social media.
Jet Force Gemini is out on the Japanese eshop right now. Widescreen mode doesn’t scale correctly. Here’s the 4:3 mode, the 16:9 mode, and the 16:9 mode manually corrected by me to show what its supposed to look like. pic.twitter.com/sN774jXTPS— John Rairdin NWR (@jtsknight92) December 1, 2023
It’s worth noting that the GoldenEye 007 release on the Switch Online also has a “same feature” but seems to have gotten it right, according to the same source. For fans of Jet Force Gemini playing on Switch, it’s recommended to stick with the 4:3 mode for the time being. We will continue to provide updates should there be any developments.
Jet Force Gemini is scheduled to arrive on the Switch Online + Expansion Pack service locally later this month.
