Nintendo and Universal’s partnership has proven to be highly successful. Universal Studios Japan unveiled their Super Nintendo World in late 2020 and early 2021, providing an enchanting experience for Nintendo enthusiasts. Shortly after, Universal Studios Hollywood opened its own Super Nintendo World in February 2023. The collaboration reached a new high with the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which not only received positive feedback from fans but also grossed over $1 billion at the box office.
The next significant development in the partnership is scheduled for 2025, with the opening of Super Nintendo World locations in Singapore and Orlando. During a recent Universal Kick-Off media meeting, it was announced that the Donkey Kong Country expansion at Universal Studios Japan’s park is set to open this spring. This expansion will showcase a new rollercoaster featuring the iconic ape, along with themed merchandise, interactive experiences, and immersive decorations that will transport visitors to The Country.
Although there are no current plans to bring the Donkey Kong Country expansion to Universal Studios Hollywood, there are reports that Epic Universe in Orlando will introduce a mine-cart-themed Donkey Kong rollercoaster. The Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios’ Epic Universe is expected to open in 2025, but it seems that the Osaka location will unveil the DK attractions beforehand.
