Is Multiversus coming to Switch? – PlayerAuctions Blog

playerauctions.com is an interesting game that draws inspiration from the Super Smash Brothers series. It features fun crossovers, a diverse character lineup, and regular updates. However, despite being available on various platforms, there is one notable exception – the Nintendo Switch. The absence of MultiVersus on the Switch has left many wondering if it will ever make its way to the popular hybrid console.

A Smash Hit That’s Yet to Come to the Switch

MultiVersus has garnered significant attention within the fighting game community. During its open beta period on PC, it attracted over 60,000 active players. The game’s player base continued to grow following its full release, making it a popular free-to-play platform fighter that features iconic characters from various IPs. It has already seen success on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, but the absence of a Switch version remains a notable gap in its reach.

Still No News for A Switch Release

Despite the anticipation for a Switch release, no official statement has been made regarding the potential availability of MultiVersus on the platform. Tony Huynh, co-founder of Player First Games, cited resource constraints as a limiting factor for the team in bringing the game to the Switch. He acknowledged that the team’s size and existing commitments meant that focusing on other platforms took precedence. While he expressed hope for a potential Switch release in the future, no active development efforts have been confirmed.

The offline mode for MultiVersus was announced to be temporarily unavailable for a period, with a re-release planned for early 2024. During this downtime, the game’s online features and modes will be inaccessible, with only local matches and the training room being available for offline play. Players can expect a temporary pause in updates as the game prepares for its re-release next year.

A Strong Start, But A Rough Finish

MultiVersus experienced a promising launch during its open beta phase, with a strong initial player base. However, the game’s popularity has waned since then, with a significant decline in daily active player counts. The tepid response to Season 2 content contributed to the decline, as player interest dwindled over time. The decision to extend Season 2 instead of beginning Season 3 further affected the game’s momentum.

Will MultiVersus Ever Come to the Switch?

Currently, there is no indication that MultiVersus will be ported to the Nintendo Switch. However, with ongoing development efforts by Player First Games and Warner Bros., there is a possibility that a Switch version could materialize alongside the game’s re-release in 2024. Until then, fans of platform fighters on the Switch will need to wait patiently, or return to the classic Super Smash Brothers series.
