Netflix to Release More than 10 Games from In-House Studios
According to Netflix’s head of gaming, Mike Verdu, the company has been busy with over 10 games currently in development at its in-house studios. In 2021, Netflix established its own studios in Helsinki and California, and also made acquisitions of other game developers including Night School Studio and Spry Fox. Verdu revealed in an interview with Axios that these studios are collectively working on more than 10 games, while the company has a total of 90 games in development through external partnerships.
Despite the estimation that less than one percent of Netflix subscribers use the gaming service, Verdu expressed satisfaction with the traction gained so far. He emphasized that Netflix does not make many big bets but remains patient with the ones it does make.
On its official website, Netflix mentioned plans to offer 86 games for subscribers by the end of the year. This includes the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto Trilogy – Definitive Edition inspired by the first trailer for GTA 6. Furthermore, the upcoming games for next year are expected to include Sonic Mania Plus, Hades, and the newly announced sequel to Cozy Grove from Spry Fox titled Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit.
