Bloodborne Remake and Sunset Overdrive PS5, PS4 versions won’t be coming anytime soon. The leaked documents from Insomniac Games hackers revealed that Microsoft still holds the publishing rights for the game. This means that any hope for a PlayStation version relies on Microsoft either selling the rights to Sony or relinquishing them altogether.
Sunset Overdrive PS5, PS4 versions won’t happen unless Microsoft relinquishes publishing rights
The leaked documents confirmed that Microsoft not only controls the original Sunset Overdrive but also has the rights to publish any sequels, DLC, and derivative games. With no end date in sight for this agreement, it seems unlikely that PlayStation owners will be able to play Sunset Overdrive without some major changes in the ownership of publishing rights.
However, it’s improbable that Sony will invest in purchasing the publishing rights, especially since the game didn’t perform as well commercially, making a profit of $567. With other more successful games in Sony’s portfolio, spending money on the Sunset Overdrive publishing rights is not a priority for the company.
There’s also speculation that Microsoft may consider publishing the game on multiple platforms, but given its underwhelming commercial performance, this remains uncertain. In fact, leaked documents even hint that Insomniac Games put a hold on plans for a sequel to Sunset Overdrive in order to develop Spider-Man for Sony. Soon after, Sony acquired Insomniac Games.
