With the newest installment of Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown, now available, you may be eager to see a definitive list of all the Prince of Persia games in chronological order.
Though there are numerous games in the series, some of which may not be readily accessible, it’s still interesting to see the order in which they fit together. Here is a rundown of all the Prince of Persia games in timeline order.
Prince of Persia: All games in timeline order
While we have a fairly definitive timeline of all the old Prince of Persia games, we do not yet know when The Lost Crown takes place. It’s a standalone game in the series with an entirely new storyline and main character, Sargon. Nonetheless, here’s the complete chronological order of all the Prince of Persia games.
1. Prince of Persia (2008)
While not the initial Prince of Persia game ever created, it is technically the first in the timeline. This installment takes place 1,000 years before The Sands of Time from 2003. It’s a standalone reboot separate from the main trilogy, set in ancient Persia with an unnamed protagonist. The game was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
2. Prince of Persia: The Fallen King (2008)
Created for the Nintendo DS, this is a direct spin-off of the previous game and occurs after it, still set in ancient Persia. Unfortunately, it received average reviews, mainly due to the challenging controls. Players with a Nintendo DS can still give it a try.
3. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003)
Finally, we reach the beloved Prince of Persia trilogy. The Sands of Time was released in 2003 on various platforms. It was immediately adored by critics and players, receiving multiple award nominations.
4. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (2010)
Set between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, The Forgotten Sands follows the same unnamed Prince in his battles against various monsters, focusing on the time manipulation game mechanics.
The main version of The Forgotten Sands was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, with other versions available on the Nintendo DS, Wii PlayStation Portable, and mobile platforms.

5. Battles of Prince of Persia (2005)
Instead of the usual gameplay, Battles of Prince of Persia is a turn-based tactical game for the Nintendo DS. It takes place sometime between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, incorporating turn-based and collectible card game mechanics.
6. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (2004)
As the second installment in The Sands of Time Trilogy, Warrior Within is set seven years after the first in the trilogy. The game takes you to the Island of Time to prevent the Empress of Time from creating the Sands of Time.
7. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (2005)
As the final game in the main Prince of Persia trilogy, The Two Thrones continues after the Warrior Within’s ending, presenting the Prince with new challenges against the Vizier and his own Dark Prince persona.
8. Prince of Persia (1989)
Technically, the list should conclude here, but for the complete chronological order, we include the original Prince of Persia from 1989, set a few hundred years after The Two Thrones, and released on the Apple II.
9. Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame (1993)
The sequel to the 1989 Prince of Persia, released on the MS-DOS and later on other platforms, built upon its predecessor’s success with more deadly dungeons and puzzles.
10. Prince of Persia 3D (1999)
The final game in this chronological list, released six years later on Windows and the Dreamcast, was a 3D action-adventure title. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as well received as its predecessors. It wasn’t long before Ubisoft would purchase the IP and give us The Sands of Time.
