Last year, it was revealed that the live-action Minecraft movie is set to hit theaters in April 2025. In a recent update, Deadline reported that Jack Black, known for his roles in ‘Kung Fu Panda’ and ‘Tenacious D’, will be joining the cast. Black is expected to play the role of the player character Steve in this movie led by Jason Momoa. Although production is “about to get underway,” details about the plot are still under wraps. According to Deadline, “The pic’s plot is under wraps, with writing credits still being determined. We hear Black is playing the role of Steve.”
This won’t be Jack Black’s first venture into video game movies. Previously, he portrayed Bowser in the ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ which turned out to be a massive box office success. His song ‘Peaches’ from the movie also earned a Golden Globe nomination.
Jack Black is also lined up to star in another live-action video game adaptation, the ‘Borderlands’ movie, scheduled for release in August. The highly-anticipated Minecraft movie, on the other hand, is slated to hit cinemas on April 4th, 2025.
