Exploring Polyamory in Baldur’s Gate 3
Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 now have the option to enable polyamory as a relationship choice among all the romance options in the game. It’s important to remember that choices in the game have consequences, and characters in the game are embracing this kind of relationship with the utmost respect for consent.
Throughout the three acts of Baldur’s Gate 3, the nature of polyamorous relationships evolves and players will discover new elements related to this relationship option.
Which BG3 Companions are Open to Polyamory?
Several BG3 companions are open to polyamorous relationships, but it’s crucial to remember that consent is key. While characters like Halsin, Astarion, Shadowheart, and Karlach are open to a polyamorous relationship, there will be times when they may not be accepting of it. Consent remains a vital aspect of these relationships.
In Act 1, polyamorous relationships are the most acceptable, but things may change as the game progresses. For example, in Act 2, if a player has been in a polyamorous relationship with both Astarion and Karlach, Astarion will ask the player to choose between him and Karlach, as he believes it’s unfair to share Karlach after she gains a new ability. This shows that consent for a polyamorous relationship may change as the game unfolds.
In Act 3, players will have the option to have a polyamorous relationship with characters like Halsin and the Drow Twins, once again, with consent being incredibly important for both the player and their partner. Additionally, polyamory is also possible with characters like Mizora and the Emperor.
Mizora is open to polyamory with companions like Astarion and Shadowheart, but their reactions to the player’s relationship with the Emperor differ.
