Haas Motorsports Fires Team Principal Guenther Steiner
Haas Motorsports has made the decision to part ways with their former Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner. This decision comes after the team’s last place finish in the 2023 Constructor’s Cup, and while it may be seen as overdue, it is a necessary step for Haas as they strive for success in F1.
While Steiner may have been one of the least successful team principals in recent memory, his larger-than-life personality made him a standout on the Netflix series, Drive to Survive. He was known for his brash and opinionated nature, along with his odd sayings and bizarre jokes, making him a perfect fit for the reality show.
With his involvement with one of the lowest-ranked teams in the sport, Steiner allowed for unprecedented access for the documentary series, making him a central character for most of Drive to Survive’s five seasons.
Steiner’s unique ability to explain the intricacies of racing in an eccentric manner, coupled with his distinctive personality, made him a fan favorite and a great entry point for newcomers to the sport.
However, despite his popularity on-screen, Steiner’s inability to lead Haas to on-track success ultimately led to his departure. He will be succeeded by Ayao Komatsu, who has been with Haas since 2016 and has also made appearances on Drive to Survive.
Although Guenther Steiner will be missed, the world of Formula 1 is never short of compelling characters. Fans of Drive to Survive will have to wait for the upcoming season to see who emerges as the next standout personality in the sport.
