The Team Behind Rebel Wolves
Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers, has announced their debut game, Dawnwalker, a story-driven dark fantasy RPG.
While the studio announced its formation in February 2022, this is the first insight we’ve gotten into what they’re working on. Along with the game’s title, the developers revealed a wallpaper, hinting at Dawnwalker’s theme upon its release.
The Team Behind Rebel Wolves
After the tumultuous release of Cyberpunk 2077, several groups of former CD Projekt Red developers departed from the company to pursue their independent projects. One of these groups formed a new studio, Blank, while another group formed Rebel Wolves back in February 2022. It wasn’t until now, after two years, that they offered a glimpse into their current project.
Rebel Wolves was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director of The Witcher 3 and the secondary game director and head of production for Cyberpunk 2077. He envisions Rebel Wolves as a place where experienced game developers can reignite their passion and pour their hearts into an amazing, ambitious title.
Breaking away from the structure of AAA development studios, Rebel Wolves aims to approach every goal as a collaborative team effort. Following their departure from CD Projekt Red, they began filling various remote and in-house roles. While based in Warsaw, Poland, Rebel Wolves also employs remote staff from around the world.
The core team includes animation director Tamara Zawada, design director Daniel Sadowski, art director Bartlomiej Gawel, main writer and narrative director Jakub Szamalek, studio head Robert Murzynowski, and chief financial officer Michal Boryka, with Konrad Tomaszkiewicz as the founder.
What’s Dawnwalker All About?
Billed as Rebel Wolves’ dream team project, Dawnwalker is a dark fantasy adventure set in the Middle Ages. Described as a “AAA IP, story-driven RPG saga built for PCs and next-generation consoles,” Dawnwalker has officially entered the alpha stage of development. The studio plans to share more information about the game later this year.
The wallpaper released by the developers depicts a man leaping through the air with a sword, and his left hand appears somewhat monstrous. Combining that with the game’s title and the image’s blood-red color, many speculate that Dawnwalker might have a vampirical theme.
Regarding this, Dawnwalker is a play on the word Daywalker, which is a term used in stories to describe vampire-human hybrids capable of walking in the sun. These hints have led us to believe that Dawnwalker may be a high fantasy story focusing on vampires, potentially inspired by The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.
Although Rebel Wolves didn’t share more information about the game beyond their earlier statements and the image shared on their Twitter/X account, the promotional art should help fuel the imaginations of what the team is working on.
