Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — Can you play without Cloud?
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is highly anticipated as one of the major releases of 2024. With a combination of new and returning features, players are eagerly awaiting its release at the end of February. However, there have been rumors circulating about whether it will be possible to play the game without Cloud.
In contrast to FF7 Remake, Rebirth is set to feature a larger number of playable party members. This has sparked a lot of discussion among fans. It has been confirmed that Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith will join returning characters Aerith, Tifa, and Barret as playable characters. While Cloud is the central character of the story, it will be possible to experiment with different party compositions that do not include him.

The ability to switch control between party members mid-fight was introduced in FF7 Remake, and it appears that this feature will also be present in Rebirth. There have been speculations and rumors suggesting that you can potentially remove Cloud from the party and continue fighting without him. This is partly true. According to the developers, there will be certain parts of the story in FF7 Rebirth where the perspective will shift. For example, there may be sections focused on Barret where he embarks on quests independently (with the help of a cunning ninja).
Unfortunately, outside of these specific story moments, players will not have the ability to fight without Cloud. This decision aligns with the overall story and its implications throughout the game. Despite this limitation, players can still look forward to a wide variety of boss battles and minigames in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
