Bethesda’s latest announcement, The Elder Scrolls: Castles, introduces a new mobile experience crafted by the same team behind the popular game Fallout Shelter.
Similar to Fallout Shelter, Castles is a management simulation game. According to Bethesda, “you’ll build your own dynasty where every day in our world is a year in the game’s world. Citizens are born, they die, rulers change, and can be betrayed.” Players will have the opportunity to take the reins of their own castle across multiple generations of rulers, families, and subjects. The decisions made by the players will determine the smooth operation of the kingdom and the contentment of their subjects; unhappy citizens may plot to overthrow the ruler.
The expansion of the player’s castle is possible with the introduction of new rooms, items, and workstations for underlings. The game also features a turn-based combat system where players equip heroes with gear to battle enemies and gather resources to grow their kingdom. However, it is unclear if Castles will be a free-to-play game despite stating that it includes in-game purchases on the App Store page.
The Elder Scrolls: Castles has been soft-launched in the Philippines and is expected to become available in other regions over the next few months. This new release marks the third mobile game in the series, following The Elder Scrolls: Blades, a traditional RPG, in 2019 and The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a collectible card game, in 2017.
