Defying Conventions: Palworld’s Unusual Gameplay
Have you heard of games defying conventions? How about the Geneva Conventions? Yes, we might all be headed for eternal damnation for this, but is that worse than being trapped inside a Pal Sphere, having your mind erased, and being programmed to unconditionally follow orders? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Everyone needs a bit of encouragement, right?
Palworld has achieved significant success since its early access release in mid-January, becoming the second most-played paid game of all time on Steam, only trailing behind PUBG. As more players immerse themselves in the game, they are bound to encounter situations that are oddly funny or even unsettling. While players can amass a variety of Pals during their Palworld adventure, they may also come across humans offering advice, engaging in trade, or even attempting to attack them. Surprisingly, players have discovered that it is indeed possible to capture humans as well, an act that raises ethical questions.
While this may raise moral concerns, capturing a Syndicate Thug, for example, results in the captured human behaving just like any other Pal. Players can give them commands, make them engage in combat with other Pals, and even subject them to what can only be described as an act of ultimate humiliation – petting. Despite the questionable nature of this gameplay element, it adds an unconventional twist to the game.
Ultimately, if players are already subjugating a group of sentient animals without cause, the inclusion of humans as capturable entities may not seem too far-fetched. However, it does raise ethical questions about the treatment of captured humans in the game.

Having exposed you to these disturbing game mechanics, feel free to explore Palworld and see if you, too, can capture a human. Proceed with caution, though, as the odds of capturing one are markedly low – a situation that may ultimately be for the best. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with Mammorath alongside my Syndicate Thug.
