Vita-esque PlayStation handheld reportedly coming with PS6
A recent report has surfaced suggesting that Sony may be collaborating with semiconductor giant AMD to develop a new handheld gaming device reminiscent of the PS Vita. The information comes from leaker MooresLawIsDead (MLID), although it’s worth noting that MLID’s track record has been met with some skepticism in the past.
According to MLID, the rumored device will feature a custom AMD Accelerated Processing Unit and will offer backwards compatibility with digital PS4 games, as well as the ability to play PS5 games with a “Pro-like patch applied.”
Reportedly still in the early stages of design, the handheld has not yet been given the green light for production. MLID speculates that it could be at least two years before Sony makes any significant progress with the project. In terms of timeline, the leaker suggests that the handheld will be part of the PS6 family of devices, indicating a potential release window no earlier than 2027, if the device comes to fruition.
MLID remains confident in their sources and asserts that the development of this new PlayStation handheld is a response to the growing demand for mobile gaming, particularly in regions such as Japan.
